The Groves Cabin Theatre

The play is being presented at the Groves Cabin Theatre located on Desert Willow Road in Morongo Valley. In July there was a terrible fire in the Morongo Valley and 29 Palms Area. The Groves Cabin Theatre was directly in its path. Fortunately the wind changed and the theatre was saved.

The theatre is thimble size and many people's living rooms are larger. In fact, it only seats 23 people. The venue has been going for quite a few years though and has won more awards than any other theater in the Coachella Valley area. They have a reputation for excellent productions. Their last production was an outstanding staging of "Gertrude Stein and Friend". They have a very good array of actors in their productions. The audience is always in for a treat when they see a play at the Cabin because of the intimacy of their productions. The viewer has the feeling that he or she is actually in the situation itself. Most live theater provides the audience with only "long shot" viewing; productions at the Cabin are all "close ups".

To get to the Cabin is quite an adventure in itself. You take Indian Canyon Boulevard from Palm Springs to the 10 Freeway. Exit onto highway 62 for Morongo Valley which is about an 8 mile trip. Look on the right of the highway for a traffic sign that says "Desert Willow Road". Then look quickly on the left for a rock that is painted red, white and blue and in small letters says "Groves Cabin Theatre". Turn left onto the road and suddenly you find you are in for another adventure: The road is unpaved! Nevermind, bounce merrily along at a slow speed and eventually when you think there could not possibly be a theatre in these parts, you will see on the left side of the dirt road some twinkling lights announcing that you have finally reached your destination.

You are now ready for the real treat of the evening to begin: Quality Live Theatre as only the Cabin can present it. Performances are Saturday nights at 8 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2 pm and ticket prices are a reasonable 10 dollars. Be sure to allow yourself an hour in order to arrive on time for this theatre expedition. For reservations, telephone (760) 365-4523
